For the Sunrise flights we meet usually at sunrise. For the Sunset flights we typically meet 2 1/2 hours before Sunset. Upon Calling the flight information line to check if your scheduled flight is a go, you will also be notified of a specific meeting time.
A: The balloon flies usually just after sunrise and one or two hours before sunset. This is the time of day when winds are calmest and most stable. For the AM flights we will meet at approximately 6am with the tour ending at approx. 930-10am. For the PM flights we will meet at approximately 6/7pm with your flight finishing at around 10-1030pm. Upon booking we will tell you the precise meeting time for the day of your tour.
Q: What kind of weather is needed?
Q: What should passengers wear?
A: The temperature varies depending on the time of year. It is best to dress as though you were going for a walk, so you can wear clothing appropriate to the temperature that day. Layered casual clothing is best. A light jacket (in the summer months you may want it for before or after the flight when temperatures are still cool), comfortable enclosed shoes or boots, and slacks comprise the best outfit.
Q: What if the flight is cancelled?
A: If a flight is cancelled due to inclement weather, the flight will be rescheduled for another day agreeable to all concerned.
Q: Who should not fly?
A: Anyone who has had recent surgery, those with severe hip or back problems, frail elderly people, and pregnant women are unable to fly. If you are unsure, check with your doctor. For safety reasons, we generally cannot fly children under the age of 12, unless they are at least 4 feet tall and weigh a minimum of 100 lbs.
Q. What time do we meet?
A. We depending on the month of the year we closely follow the Sunrise and Sunset schedules as can be found on this website:

Q: What is the best time to fly?
Hang Gliding F.A.Q.s
A: Most hang glider pilots will tell you that anytime is a good time. However, some times are better than others depending on what you like. If you are nervous or afraid of heights then we recommend flying sometime in the morning or late afternoon/evening. The air is smoother and more stable. If you're on the heavier end of the scale or wish a little more height, the middle of the day normally provides stronger winds, more thermal activity and a slightly bumpier ride. Other nice times to fly are in fall with the changing colour of the leaves and sunset flights can be quite amazing.
Q: What if I enjoy my flight and want to take lessons?
A: Any of our pilots started out this way. If you thoroughly enjoy your flight and you wish to take lessons then have a chat to your pilot or a staff member before you leave. We can sign you up for a beginner course and arrange to get you started as soon as you like.
Q: How long and how high do we fly during the Tandem Hang gliding flight?
A: We try to take you up between 1,000 and 2,000 feet above ground. It is possible to take a deluxe flight which means we spend longer on tow and do what we can to get even higher. The entire lesson lasts about half an hour. The time in the air can be anywhere from 15-25 minutes.
Q: Are there any restrictions on who can fly?
A: To take a Discovery Tandem Flight you have to weigh between 60 and 250 pounds. You need to have reasonable use of your arms & legs, and be able to understand spoken English. If you have limited or no use of your legs, the Ontario Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association (OHPA) have a purpose built paraplegic harness which we can use, but it is kept off site so has to arranged in advance.
Q: How far in advance should I make a reservation? (applies to all trips!)
A: For weekends we suggest 1-3 weeks notice, for weekdays we suggest 3-4 days notice. Sometimes we can get you into a trip two days before especially for horseback riding and sometimes for Hang Gliding. Hot Air ballooning flights book up fast, so make your reservations early to avoid dissappointment.
Q: How do I make a reservation?
A: Fill out the registration form, by clicking on the purple "Check Availability" button that looks like this:
Alternatively call Agnes at the Office 416.898.3573 to make your reservation. If you get a vm, please do leave a message so that Agnes knows you called!
A: Yes, Ontario is pretty flat. We use a hydraulic winch and a tow line to pull us into the air. It is a reliable system which allows us to launch out of a perfectly flat field which eliminates the need to look over the edge of anything. There's nothing intimidating about flying out of a perfectly good tow field. The tow system we use allows us to gain altitudes in the thousands of feet before releasing the line.
The hang glider is controlled by weight shift. By moving the position at where your body hangs allows us to alter the balance of the glider, which allows it to go where we want. You will be surprised at how much control this gives us. If you like you are welcome to try flying the glider yourself after the tow line is released.

The glider goes through a vigorous certification process and is tested to 6 G's positive and 4 G's negative. Tandem Instructors are professionals in their field requiring the highest standard of flying ability in order to be able to take the responsibility for the safety of another person.
Q: Ontario is pretty flat, how do we take off? How is the hang glider controlled and are the pilots certified?
A: The pilots which whom you will be flying with, hold the highest ratings available in Canada and the United States. Not only are they masters of their field, our primary two tandems instructors were part of the 2002 Safety Hang Gliding Tour through the south-west states of USA. Hang gliding has inherent risks like any other sport. Although we do our best to minimize these risks, we cannot guarantee safety and you will be asked to sign a standard liability release waiver before you can fly.
Q: Is hang gliding safe?
Q: How do I pay and is there a deposit?
A: Upon registering for a trip we will ask you for your Credit Card #. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and AMEX. For Hang Gliding there is a non refundable $25 per person deposit that will be charged to your card, this is part of your flight cost and not anything extra. For all trips you can also pay in cash upon arrival but you do need to reserve with a credit card.
Q: Do i have to sign a Waiver?
A: Yes. Any and every time you take a trip/tour you will have to sign a Waiver.
on prices or anything like that as we feel that it wouldn't be fair to you! =)
A: Ballooning is very weather dependent. Calm winds & no storm activity or rain are a must. Ideal winds are three to six miles per hour.
Q: How long is a flight?
Q: Can you steer a balloon?
Q: How high do balloons fly?
A: Most balloon flights occur between 500 and 1500 feet above the ground, but balloons can fly treetop level or go much higher or lower, depending on the terrain.
A: The actual flight time averages about an hour, possibly up to an hour and a half. However, the entire ballooning experience, including the pre-flight preparation and the post-flight celebration & champagne toast, will likely take three to four hours altogether.
A: Strictly speaking, no! The balloon goes where the wind takes it. However, the winds at varying altitudes blow in different directions and at different speeds, so the pilot climbs and descends to different altitudes to alter direction. There is a chase vehicle that follows the balloon via the ground and is there to retrieve the balloon after landing.
